Nathan Yeomans Wins Third Consecutive Newport Beach Pro

NEWPORT BEACH, California (Sunday, September 21, 2008) – Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), 27, has claimed his third consecutive event title with a big win at the 2008 Oakley Newport Beach Pro over fellow finalists Dillon Perillo (Malibu, CA), 18, Travis Mellem (San Clemente, CA), 23, and Micah Byrne (Huntington Beach, CA), 26, in clean two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Newport Beach’s 56th Street.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star event is the second of three stops on the 2008 Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series (an ASP North America Specialty Series), and Yeomans’ emphatic victory vaults the phenomenal goofy-footer into the lead heading intp the third and final stop in Santa Cruz this October.

Yeomans, the two-time defending event champion and 2006 Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series Champion, wasted no time in this afternoon’s Final, picking off an excellent 8.50 out of a possible 10 for detonating on a roping lefthander in the opening minutes.

“I knew that all the other guys were ripping so I wasn’t planning on leaving anything to chance out there,” Yeomans said. “I got that pretty good left at the start and that set me up for the rest of the heat. Dillon (Perillo) was ripping everything that came his way, but I got a solid righthander about midway through and was able to throw a little backhand air and that sealed it for me.”

Currently sitting No. 26 on the 2008 ASP WQS ratings, Yeomans will be looking to use the momentum from today’s win as he continues his campaign to qualify for the prestigious ASP World Tour in 2009.

“I’m a little bit speechless after all this,” Yeomans said. “Everyone is coming up to me and saying that no one has ever won a ’QS three years in a row and that kind of spins me out. It’s great. I love this event and it’s a great confidence boost heading into the rest of the year. My goal is to qualify for the ASP World Tour and I’m planning to do that in the next few months.”

Willian Cardoso wins 5* WQS in Spain

PANTIN, Spain (Sunday, September 7, 2008):Rusty Team rider William Cardoso (BRA), 22, won the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) 5-Star Movistar O'Neill Pantin Classic in three foot (one meter) waves defeating Michel Bourez (PYF) in the final man-on-man battle of the week winning 2000 valuable points counting for the international ratings. Cardoso, who defeated Bourez in tricky conditions, ended a week of high performance big wave surfing after posting some of the event's best scores for his maiden WQS victory.

"I am over the moon right now and I am stoked to get that win," Cardoso said. "It was a week of great waves and I was just feeling good and relaxed. It ends up perfectly for me and today is a special one as I placed second in an event exactly a year ago and I wanted to better that."

Cardoso, who will surf in the upcoming event next week, was impressive all week in the massive ten foot (three meter) waves and it was no surprise to see him grab the title today.

"I like big waves and we had the biggest swell of the summer this week so I was definitely hoping to get a big result," Cardoso said. "I had a tough time this year with an injury that kept me out of the water for two months after an operation and this win definitely puts me back on track for the race. So stoked."

Josh Kerr rockets to 3rd on WQS ratings

Josh Kerr Claims 3rd Place at both Lacanau and Hossegor WQS events:

Rusty Rider and 2007 WCT surfer, Josh Kerr set the show and reached semi-finals during the two big WQS French events in Lacanau and Hossegor.

During the two most important events of the European Season, Josh was pushing the boundaries of the competitive surfing format. With his own style, the flying Aussie impressed the public, the judges and even the other competitors. In every heat, Kerr offered up a demonstration of progressive surfing with air reverses, enormous alley oops and big layback hacks which had competitors and spectators alike betting on him as the favorite to win both events.

Although falling short with the changing conditions where he couldn’t find any waves, Josh was still stoked to settle with his two third place finishes.

“I had a lot of fun today but I am still bummed with that 3rd, the second one in two weeks … I will have to work on that last heat and victory because I want to win. I have had several finals including one here three years ago but I want to win." Said Josh still satisfied of the show he offered up to the crowd.

However, Kerzy’s International campaign remains positive and after the last 2 French events and only seven events surfed, Josh stands at the 3rd spot of the 2008 WQS rankings.
Despite now looking solid for re-qualification Josh is still contemplating his options and doesn’t know if he will accept his ticket on the 2009 Dream Tour.
